Water Drop

For thirty years, there has been a system of community health promoters in rural communities surrounding the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC) in Santiago, Dominican Republic.  These cooperadores de la salud are men and women selected by their own community to receive ongoing training in health care and education at the ILAC center.  The water purification project is using the Health Promoter System to distribute the filters and to monitor and supervise how they are functioning.  Additionally, their training in general hygiene and sanitation practices have made them a valuable source of education for their communities and integral to the sanitation promotion aspect of the project.
