How to Apply

Complete an application, available from International Programs or downloaded from this  website:          

Dominican Republic Project Application

Submit the completed application, signed by the instructor, to International Programs, with a matriculation check for $50.  Incomplete applications are NOT accepted. The deadline for application is April 1, 2002.

You must complete the top portion of the ACS in the D.R. Authorization Form and submit it to the Director of International Programs at your home campus, who will return it to Rollins College. 

Include with your application two small photos.  The kind from photo booths are the most common and most economical.

 

ACADEMIC STATUS

Applicants must be in good standing with their home institution. Students on probation must make a written request for participation when they apply, outlining the circumstances of their status.

 

CREDIT

Rollins students who want academic credit:

You should download Independent Study Form from Student Records - click here - Dr Bernal will be your faculty sponsor and will need to sign the form along with your advisor.  Return the completed form to Student Records.  Approved forms will be forwarded to the Hamilton Holt School and you will then need to fill out a Holt application, pay the $35 application fee, and pay Holt School tuition for a two credit course (approximately $338).  BE SURE TO APPLY BEFORE THE SUMMER HOLT SCHOOL DEADLINE OF APRIL 26.

ACS students who want academic credit:

Please arrange credit through your home institution.

 

COSTS

Students are responsible for their own costs in the Dominican Republic.  Scholarships are available to defray the cost of participation.  Click here for the application in Adobe Acrobat format.

 

INSURANCE

All students are required to have health and accident insurance that will cover them abroad.

Off Campus Field Study participants are issued the International Student Identity Card, which provides limited accident and hospitalization as well as emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage. You may also purchase additional health and accident insurance through Reliance International. You may call (410) 583-2595 and request their publication Health Insurance for U.S. Students Studying Abroad. You also might consider purchasing trip cancellation or interruption insurance through Access America at 1-800-284-8300.

 

PASSPORT

All students who travel outside the United States must have a valid passport. If you have a passport, make sure it is valid until December of 2002. You must apply in person at a county courthouse or issuing office. Call 407-830-7337 to receive information about applying for a passport. Processing takes approximately four to six weeks. You may also visit the U.S. State Department’s passport site at

IMMUNIZATIONS

All Off Campus Field Study participants should have their tetanus immunizations updated. Specific guidelines from the Center for Disease Control can be found at:
