Application Information
Specific program applications can be downloaded by following the links on the left of this page.
Courses and Credit
Students earn fifteen to eighteen credit hours per semester. A student’s academic program should be approved in advance by his or her academic adviser to insure receipt of credit by the home institution. Letter grades are awarded, with the exception of the internships in London and Sydney, which are graded credit/no record.
Overseas Administration
All Rollins study abroad programs have experienced resident directors and staff to provide on-site orientation as well as support throughout the term.
Program Fees
The comprehensive fee for the programs covers tuition, room, board, local transportation, round-trip international airfare from Los Angeles for Australia, from New York for all other programs, on-site orientation and field trips. Rollins students pay their semester bill for tuition, double room, board and fees. Not included in the program fee are the expenses of books, laundry, sundries, entertainment and recreation, weekend trips or extended travel during breaks or after the term.
Group Travel
The cost of the international round trip group flight is included in the program fee. Students studying in Australia who wish to add stops in the Pacific on the return flight may do so at the cost of approximately $150 per flight.
Financial Aid
Rollins students may apply most loans, scholarships and grants toward the program fee except for work study programs, athletic grants, and talent scholarships offered by academic departments. Because the cost of these programs is approximately the same as attendance at Rollins, the amount of financial aid awarded should not change, with the three exceptions mentioned above. You may request Student Financial Planning to increase your financial aid to cover the higher cost of living abroad. Because financial aid policies vary widely from college to college, students from other colleges and universities must consult the financial aid office or study abroad advisor of their home institution to find out if their aid will apply.
Payment of Fees
A $1500 deposit is required within three weeks of acceptance for Australia, a $500 deposit for Spain and Germany, and a $750 deposit is required for England. The deposit is non-refundable but applicable to the program fee. The balance is due June 1 for Australia, June 30 for all other fall programs and November 30 for all spring programs. All fees must be paid in full before a student leaves the U.S.
Books and Spending Money
Students generally spend much less on books and supplies than they would on the home campus. Students in Australia spend approximately $150 on books, while students in England and Spain will not have to buy books. The amount of money a student spends per week varies greatly according to lifestyle and spending habits. Students generally spend from $50 to $150 per week on personal items, entertainment and travel. One suggested formula for determining the amount of spending money needed is to add 25% to the amount you usually spend per week here in the U.S.
Health Insurance
All participants are required to have health insurance. Rollins students are covered under the Rollins group health care insurance policy, but should plan to have additional health insurance from another source. Companies specializing in insurance of this type include, but are not limited to:
Reliance National - CMI Insurance Specialists (410) 583-2595
Health Care Global - Wallach and Company (800) 237-6615
Inclusion of these companies is not an endorsement of them, rather a suggested starting-off point for your search of an appropriate policy. The International Student Identity Card, which provides limited accident and hospitalization coverage, is provided to all participants.
Eligibility
The minimum GPA for admission to the programs in Asturias and Münster is 3.0. Sydney requires a 3.0 GPA. All three programs also require good college standing, an excellent record of personal responsibility (e.g. judicial record, service to the Rollins community, employment history) and high level of maturity. Applicants will also be evaluated on the basis of their application and academic reference. Applicants must have at least 1½ years of college language study or the equivalent for the programs in Asturias and Münster.
Applications meeting the criteria stated above are reviewed once a semester. Applicants are urged to submit their applications before the deadline as this will allow the student to make adjustments to their application if needed. Because of limits in the places available, students meeting the minimum requirements are therefore not guaranteed a place.
Applicants not meeting the criteria stated above will be considered on a space available basis after the program deadline and will require a faculty interview.
The minimum requirements for admission to the internship programs in London and Sydney are: 3.0 minimum gpa, good college standing, an excellent record of personal responsibility (e.g. judicial record, service to the Rollins community, employment history) and high level of maturity. Applicants should have the ability to adapt to a new culture and maintain a relatively high degree of independence. The internship is a rigorous experience, and applicants should be ready to accept the responsibilities of a full time job. Applicants will also be evaluated on the basis of their qualifications for the internship, their application and faculty interview.
Completed internship applications are reviewed once a semester. Because of limits in the places available, students meeting the minimum requirements are therefore not guaranteed a place. In exceptional cases, applicants not meeting the criteria stated above will be considered on a space available basis.
