Criminal Background Checks & Education Verifications

Once an offer of employment is made, Rollins College requires all full-time staff/faculty, part-time staff, adjuncts, temporary staff and volunteers to complete a criminal background check. You cannot opt out and appointments are contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check.

Rollins College conducts background checks in order to promote a safe learning and working environment and protect the welfare of current and future students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the College; to protect institutional assets including property and information; to perform due diligence in verifying the identity and credentials of applicants.  Background checks are common practice in higher education and colleges/universities routinely conduct these checks on their staff, faculty, adjuncts and volunteers.

Background checks are conducted by a reputable third party company called, Truescreen®, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vertical Screen, Inc. All background checks are conducted in compliance with federal and state law.

Our background check includes a social security number validation, address history, county criminal searches, federal criminal search, national criminal database search and SanctionsBase Plus search (includes various state and federal databases that list individuals who have been fined or censured by regulators in the healthcare, financial services and other regulated professions.  It also includes names of wanted terrorists and drug traffickers).
