Planning and Goal Setting for Successful Leadership Development
Leadership begins with:
- Knowing Yourself
Understanding who you are as a leader may be one of the most important lessons you ever learn. The Crummer Leadership Program is designed to allow you to reveal more about yourself - as a leader, as a team member, as a person - than ever before. You'll be asked some hard questions. You'll examine your strengths, explore your leadership styles and preferences, uncover areas for improvement and discover how you can map a strategy to develop yourself into the leader you know you can be.
An essential component of the Crummer Leadership Program is a rigorous examination of leadership styles and individual preferences. Each participant will complete four assessment instruments (Personal Profile System - DISC, 360 Leadership Instrument, Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) and Team Dimensions Profile) prior to arriving on campus. Results of each assessment will be presented during an expertly led classroom discussion, as well as during a one-on-one session with a feedback coach conducted during the four day program. - Knowing Others
Insight into what inspires your team is critical to succeeding as a leader in any organization. You will be assigned to teams that will work together throughout the program, leading to a powerful team feedback session. You'll learn how to: - Obtain peak performance from your team
- Develop and retain talent
- Get the job done through others
- Provide a motivating environment
- Tailor your approach to individual employees to increase effectiveness
- Help your team set and achieve effective organizational goals
- Knowing the Situation
People in leadership positions become more effective when they vary their leadership styles in response to the needs of the people and situations they're trying to manage. With some employees, in some situations, on some tasks, managers need to provide a great deal of direction. With others, encouragement and recognition are important. In some situations it is appropriate to delegate.
Focusing on specific situational dynamics will help increase your effectiveness as a leader. You'll understand the concepts that allow a manager to supply his or her employees that which the employees cannot supply for themselves. By understanding that employees' needs are situational, a leader, through proper diagnosis, can apply the proper leadership style that will create an atmosphere for success.
