diabetes and obesity: america's epidemic

On behalf of the Rollins College Center for Health Innovation we are proud to announce the second presentation in our Health Forum Series - Diabetes and Obesity: America’s Epidemic. To contribute to the slow-down and stop the progression of this epidemic, this lecture will discuss the latest therapeutic innovations, the new pathways which will allow the development of new pharmaceutical treatments but also discuss how to prevent diabetes and obesity by using diet, exercise, and other lifestyle choices.

This presentation on Diabetes and Obesity aims to launch the discussion between the different actors involved in the fight against diabetes and obesity with responses from a panel of experts. It still remains that diabetes and obesity are multi-factorial, intertwined  problems, involving genetic, neurological, behavioral and cultural components, and as such, a long term solution to this epidemic is unachievable through a single sector approach. Instead an integrated strategy is required, with input and close collaboration from all of the many different stakeholders involved – the food industry, government, the insurance industry, researchers, health professionals, the media, and of course consumers themselves.
