 Engaged Learning

A Community of Learners

At Rollins, students are energized by their learning experiences.  This excitement comes from an integration of classroom study and practical hands-on opportunities.  Engaged learning at Rollins gives students the opportunity to develop their interests while sparking a passion to make a difference in the world.  Engaged learning challenges students to think outside the box, experience new points of view, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners.  It builds skills that are essential for students to use  to connect information from across disciplines and perspectives--the same leadership skills that are valued in today's workforce.  At Rollins, engaged learning is incorporated into curricular and co-curricular activities built around asking questions and working pragmatically in the search to find answers.

Encouraging A Tradition of Innovation

Rollins has long been recognized for its commitment to curricular innovation. A distinctive feature of a Rollins education is a strong emphasis on the liberal arts coupled with recognition of the practical need to prepare students to be responsible leaders.

A renewal of the general education curriculum is currently being undertaken in the spirit of these defining commitments. A&S faculty are implementing the Rollins Plan (RP) as an alternative to current general education requirements.

RPs actively engage students both inside and outside of the classroom, deepening the connection between theory and practice, and strengthening the relationship between the College and the larger community.
