Rollins MBA Ranked Top in Florida for Leadership Development by Leadership Excellence Magazine

ORLANDO, Fla.—October 7, 2009—The Rollins MBA at the Crummer Graduate School of Business has been recognized as a top leadership development educator by Leadership Excellence magazine. The Rollins MBA was cited as 22nd in the nation and the top school in Florida out of the 24 graduate programs included in the ranking.

The Leadership Excellence Best in Leadership Development Program ranks the top leadership development best practices of small to midsize organizations, large organizations, education, nonprofit organizations, government/military, consultants/trainers/coaches and large consulting groups. The rankings are based on seven criteria: vision/mission; involvement and participation; measurement and accountability; design, content and curriculum; presenters, presentations and delivery; take-home value; and outreach.

“Leadership is a fundamental part of the Crummer experience,” said Craig McAllaster, dean, the Crummer Graduate School of Business. “We are committed to providing our MBA students the opportunity for leadership development because we believe each one of them has the potential to grow as a person and as a leader.”

The Center for Leadership Development at the Crummer Graduate School of Business was established to assist Early Advantage MBA (EA) students in understanding leadership and enhancing self awareness in order to further develop their leadership skills.

“Crummer Graduate School of Business continues to improve its programs in management and leadership development to assist students and other stakeholders,” said Ken Shelton, editor, Leadership Excellence. “They deserve to be ranked among the top universities for developing authentic leaders.”

All EA students are required to take an assessment during a two-week orientation. The assessment measures leadership competencies such as leading change and innovation, empowerment and the use of power, attitude management and motivating others. In their first year, all EA students are also required to create an extensive personal leadership development plan, which includes a detailed action plan, outlining leadership development goals to address while enrolled at Crummer. In their second year, students repeat the assessment to determine changes in student perceptions of their leadership skills; they are also asked to write a detailed reflective paper assessing the progress they made toward their goals and track their progress toward completing roadmap requirements. The Center further augments the MBA experience through programming that includes assessments, interactive experiences, familiarization with leadership best practices, and exposure to recognized thought leaders.
