Unique Capstone Experience
In their final year, students participate in a Master Therapist Series consisting of three all-day learning seminar taught by nationally recognized experts in their field.
Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program
The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program provides the education and training experiences for students to acquire the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to become competent clinical mental health counselors. In accordance with the requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor in the state of Florida, the program requires completion of a 63-semester-hour curriculum which may be completed on a full-time three-year track, a four-year part-time track, or a five-year part-time track (with department approval). Our methods of instruction involve in-person, face-to-face, interactive, and experiential curriculum that infuses multi-cultural and social justice counselor education in every course. In addition to your 800-hour practicum and internship during your final year, you’ll participate in 100 hours of non-clinical service activities at a mental health agency and engage in 100 hours of social justice advocacy to promote social change. Late afternoon and early evening classes, structured for 12 to 15 students, provide individualized instruction.
The program is a lock-step curriculum, meaning all students on the full-time track take the same courses during the same semester as their peers. This model fosters close and supportive peer relationships and. ongoing shared learning experiences. The lock-step curriculum is designed in a developmental sequence with courses building on previous ones.
The program is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) in mental health counseling.
Currently enrolled degree-seeking students of the Rollins Graduate Studies in Counseling Program are also eligible to apply for admission to optional certificate programs.
Certificate Program in Family & Relationship Therapy
The Certificate Program in Family and Relationship Therapy is an optional program designed to provide specialized training and supervision for clinical mental health counseling students who are interested in gaining further knowledge and skills in working with families and couples from a systemic perspective. The program requirements also prepare certificate holders with the coursework and pre-degree internship experience required for licensure in marriage and family therapy as defined by the Florida Department of Health Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling (491 Board).

The Certificate Program in College and University Counseling (CCUC) is designed to provide specialized training and supervision for clinical mental health counseling students and graduates who are interested in gaining further knowledge and skills working with the college population from a holistic perspective. The certificate curriculum emphasizes an understanding of the college environment, the roles and responsibilities of a college or university counselor, student development theory and models, and specialized student affairs knowledge and experience. The Certificate Program is not intended to provide all the training necessary to function as an independent professional, but rather to supplement a degree in clinical mental health counseling as a specialized area of study.
The Certificate Program in College and University Counseling can be completed concurrently with the master's degree program. Students complete 25 semester hours of credit (19 hours of which are required courses in the mental health counseling). The practicum and internship take place in a CCUC-approved college or university counseling setting..
