Cornell Museum presents
"ars antiqua" christmas concert
WINTER PARK, Fla. — The
Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College will present its 18th
Annual Ars Antiqua Christmas Concert on
Sunday, December 18, at 3 p.m., in the Annie Russell
Theatre on campus. Since its first Cornell Museum performance in
1988, the Ars Antiqua Christmas Concert has become a
treasured holiday event in Central Florida. Ars Antiqua,
Latin for “old (or ancient) art,” is a group of local musicians who
share a love of Early Music and musical instruments. The group performs
vocal music ― from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, and
even modern periods ― accompanied by recorders, viols, harp,
harpsichord, gemshorns, krummhorns, rauschpfiefe, cornettino, and
percussion. Its members—Artie Almeida, Katherine Nicklin, Donna Rhodes,
Barbara Burton, Pamela Petersen, and Stephen Nelson—tour extensively
throughout the state, performing for festivals, schools, convention
events, and other special occasions. They have been heard on National
Public Radio and have been seen on national television.
Tickets are $15
($10 for members of the Friends of the Cornell Museum) and must be
reserved in advance by calling the Cornell Museum at 407-646-2526
before Friday, December 16. The new Cornell Fine Arts Museum will be
dedicated on Friday, January 20, 2006 at 4:30 pm with a formal
ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a reception. The grand reopening to
the public will be on Sunday, January 22 from 1 to 5
pm. For a complete exhibition schedule and calendar of events
presented by the Cornell Museum, please call 407-646-2526 or
visit the Museum’s website at www.rollins.edu/cfam.
