CORNELL MUSEUM ANNOUNCES THREE NEW SUMMER SHOWS
Winter Park, FL - The galleries of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College will be closed to the public May 22 through June 4 for the installation of its summer shows. The Cornell Museum will re-open on June 5th with three new exhibitions created from their outstanding permanent collection of American and European Art. These exhibitions are: Winslow Homer: Joys of the Day This exhibition will include over fifty woodcut engravings by one of America's greatest artists. Classic Homer prints such as the charming "Waiting for a Bite" will be included in the exhibition which runs through August 26th;American Portraits is a small showing of one dozen fine nineteenth century oil paintings drawn from the Cornell's American art collection. On view will be works by two of America's greatest portrait painters, Gilbert Stuart and Thomas Sully. The exhibition continues until December 31, 2007; 16th - 20th Century European and American Paintings is an exhibition which highlights landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, and history paintings from the permanent collection, including paintings by Cosimo Rosselli, Lavinia Fontana, Childe Hassam, Albert Pinkham Ryder, Arthur B. Davies, and Gregory Gillespie. The exhibition continues until December 31, 2007; And, having opened in January 2007, and due to popular demand, Diverse Africa: Ambassador and Mrs. Ulric Haynes, Jr. Collection of Tribal Art and Jewelry continues through August 26th. The exhibition consists of masterpieces of Benin, Ashanti, Senufo, Yoruba, Bakota and Bamana sculpture, as well as, exquisite examples of Berber coral and silver jewelry, and Masai beaded jewelry. The Cornell Fine Arts Museum is located on the campus of Rollins College near downtown Winter Park. Gallery hours are 10 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults. There is no charge for CFAM Members, Rollins College Faculty, Staff, and all students with current ID.
