Getting Started

There are many benefits to doing an internship while at Rollins. An internship is a great way to explore potential career options and gain professional skills related to your major and/or your future career choice. Finally, once you have obtained 30 hours of college credit, you can earn 2, 3, or 4 hours of credit for completing an academic internship.  These hours may count towards your elective or major requirements.

Several resources are available to help students identify potential internship sites, both locally within the Central Florida area, as well as numerous cities across the country and abroad.  These resources and how to access them can be found on the How to Find an Internship page.

If you are just now beginning your internship search, you may find the following steps useful.

  • Research internship opportunities through the Career Services internship database on R-CareerLink (pre-approved for credit and listed in the Jobs for Tars system), national internship databases, or create your own internship.

  • Complete an Intent to Register Form as soon as you begin thinking about doing an internship and bring it to the Office of Career Services.

  • Prepare a draft of your resume by attending a resume workshop or using the resume packet available in the Office of Career Services.

  • Have your resume critiqued by a staff member in Career Services. Drop off your resume 8:30am-5:00pm (closed 12pm-1pm) and pick it up 24 hours later.

  • Apply to 3-5 internship opportunities you found on Jobs for Tars or through other sources. You may access the Jobs for Tars system on R-CareerLink. Call employers within 1-2 weeks of submitting application materials to make sure they have been received and be sure to check your e-mail and voicemail on a regular basis for messages from employers.

  • Practice your interviewing skills. Pick up an interviewing packet from the Office of Career Services and/or make an appointment for a practice interview by calling 646-2195. If you have access to a web cam, you may also conduct a practice interview online using the InterviewStream program, available through your R-CareerLink account.

  • Once you accept an offer from an internship site, complete a Credit Approval Form and turn it into the Office of Career Services before the internship registration deadline listed on the Career Services Calendar.

  • If you wish to receive academic credit for an internship that has not previously been approved for academic credit, the internship supervisor must submit information pertaining to your internship to the Office of Career Services by the posted internship registration deadline for that semester. Internship site sponsors may find out more about how to submit this information here.
