Rollins Welcomes Dr. Peter McAlindon as Entrepreneur-in-Residence

June 24, 2013 - Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business today announced that Dr. Peter McAlindon has joined the school as Entrepreneur-in-Residence, bringing 20 years of successful entrepreneurial venture creation to the program. Dr. McAlindon will also serve as a full-time instructor of entrepreneurship, drawing upon his experience as an inventor and serial entrepreneur to mentor individuals and teams of students.

Dr. McAlindon’s commitment to nurturing successful entrepreneurship in the region extends beyond the classroom. “My company is Orlando-based, my products are manufactured here, and we are developing a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in Central Florida. Graduates of the Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business will play an important role in the future of this community. I look forward to working with students and alumni who are eager to develop innovative products and services that create value for both the economy and society,” said Dr. McAlindon.

Dr. McAlindon serves as a faculty advisor to Rollins students through the Entrepreneurial Scholar of Distinction (ESD) program, mentoring teams of students as they find commercial applications and develop paths to market for technologies developed by NASA. The project with NASA in the fall of 2012 has already resulted in the formation of a startup company, Juntura, founded by Crummer students and alumni.

Dr. McAlindon is the founder and chief executive officer of Blue Orb Inc., a company that develops computer technology for persons with disabilities. Blue Orb’s flagship product, the orbiTouch Keyless Keyboard was developed for people who do not have full use of their fingers or hands to use a regular keyboard or mouse. The orbiTouch has received numerous industry awards and recognition including the prestigious daVinci award for design and the “Best of Innovations” award at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show. Through Blue Orb, Dr. McAlindon has successfully secured three sequential rounds of funding from the National Science Foundation and more than $5,000,000 in angel investor funding. Dr. McAlindon is in the process of completing a grant to help people with disabilities become entrepreneurs. Additionally, he is a co-founder of venVelo, Florida's newest business accelerator and seed capital fund.

Prior to Blue Orb, Dr. McAlindon was chief executive officer for inTouch Computing, a web design company. He directed the organization’s vision, financial reporting and control functions, as well as its business development and strategy formulation, product development, and all operational and performance management functions.

A native of Michigan, Dr. McAlindon graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, was nominated to the National Dean’s List, and is a member of several professional societies and associations. He received his Master of Aeronautical Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
