Professional Interests:

I am interested in how the teaching of science can be changed so that all students understand and appreciate the role of science in their daily lives. My primary focus is on the improvement of science education at the K-6 level in the hopes that more students will retain their sense of wonder about the world around them and become interested in pursuing further studies in this science.

Student researchers in my lab work on a variety of microbiological topics dealing with the specialized role of proteins in pathogenicity.

Personal Interests:

I relax by reading mystery novels and anything about microorganisms. Whenever possible I travel, and spend most summers hiking through the scenic parks of Canada.
