CEP is an award-winning leadership and citizenship program based at Northwestern’s Center for Talent Development. For the last 10 years, CEP has been training and inspiring students to become active, engaged citizens. The program combines traditional education and community service to promote civic responsibility to middle and high school students from across the country.

CEP offers week-long immersion programs for 9-12th graders during the academic year, as well as intensive three week service-learning courses for 7th-12th graders during the summer months.

CEP programs explore complex social issues through academic study, meaningful service work, and meetings with community leaders; to help teach young people how to apply their skills and abilities to address pressing social issues in their own communities.

Hein was the lead facilitator for a program focusing on public health.  Hein, along with her two assistant facilitators, taught 18 high school students from across the United States.
