smitherWelcome from the Dean of the Arts & Sciences
Welcome and congratulations on becoming a part of the Rollins Community!

Our mission in the College of Arts & Sciences is to provide our students with a rigorous liberal arts education of the highest quality.  By fostering the intellectual and ethical development of our students, a Rollins education empowers them to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers.

We encourage students to ask questions, think critically, and engage in the world around them - to take part in challenging classroom discussions,  collaborate with faculty in scholarly activities and research, and develop personal relationships with professors and peers.  Rollins students participate in exciting international learning opportunities, join community engagement programs, and participating in integrative curricular and co-curricular activities.

The distinguished faculty and dedicated staff of the College of Arts & Sciences share a commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and service.  You can learn more about the exceptional accomplishments of A & S faculty, staff, and students in the 2010-11 Dean of the Faculty Annual Report.

Welcome from the Associate Dean of the Arts & Sciences

cavenaugh“I am always a student.  I shall never stop thinking, studying, learning, as long as I live.  There is so much to do, so much to express, such worlds of artistic beauty to explore.”  - Annie Russell

I am inspired by these words of Annie Russell, the great American actress after whom the Rollins Theater is named. At Rollins we fully expect that our graduates will become lifelong learners, enriching and transforming the communities in which they live, work and serve. Each day, whether it is in the classroom, rehearsal hall, athletic field or dorm room, our students and faculty engage in conversations, debates, and explorations that pave the way for an engaged and impactful life. We ask nothing of our students that we do not ask of ourselves; through our individual research and creative work, as well as our collaborative scholarship with our students, Rollins faculty and staff model a passion for learning, engaged citizenship, and a commitment to making the world a better place. So each day I follow the advice of Miss Russell:  Think. Study. Learn. There is so much to do!
