he
Museum of the Mani region occupies the
restored 18th-century tower of Tzanet-Bey
Grigorakis, the leader of one of the most powerful
Maniot clans. The museum is not large, but it
has an interesting display of maps of the area,
historical documents, drawings, and
photographs related to the region's history,
customs, architecture, and famous historical figures
(Kolokotronis, Mavromichalis, Grigorakis). The
photographs above show the typical clothing of the
Mani men and women, their weapons, and their rugged,
inhospitable habitat dotted by "tower houses,"
symbols of Maniot feuds.
